Speaker Heastie Statement on Democrats Taking Back the House
Across the United States, the people have spoken. They said that they are tired of the attacks on healthcare, attacks on women's reproductive rights and they are tired of tax cuts for wealthy donors that leave middle class families behind. Today, millions went to the polls and voted to move America forward, sending Democrats to the U.S. House of Representatives. I'm proud to say that two of our own from the Assembly Majority will be among the blue wave freshman class.
My heartfelt congratulations go out to my colleague and friend Anthony Brindisi. After years fighting for his constituents in the Assembly, I know he'll be an asset to the NY delegation, fighting to make our country a better place for all Americans.
And while I will miss having Joe Morelle as my first officer here in the Assembly, Washington needs him. I know he will continue to fight the good fight for families in New York and across the country. Congratulations.
