Speaker Heastie Statement on Assemblymember Deborah Glick's Announcement Not to Seek Re-Election

Deborah Glick has been a strong voice for her constituents in her Manhattan Assembly District and for all of New York. She has dedicated her life and her career to protecting the rights of all New Yorkers and her record of legislative accomplishments is unmatched. Deborah fought to protect women’s reproductive rights, carrying the Reproductive Health Act, which codified Roe v. Wade in New York State law. She has been a stalwart fighter for the LGBTQ community, passing legislation to ban conversion therapy, establishing the rights of domestic partners to care for loved ones in medical facilities, prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and protecting transgender and gender non-conforming individuals from discrimination.

Over the years, she has served admirably as chair of the Higher Education Committee, helping make college more affordable for our students, and most recently of the Environmental Conservation Committee, working to protect our state’s natural resources and beauty for future generations.

Beyond her accomplishments, Deborah has been a trusted colleague and friend. She has been a source of advice and wise counsel over the years I have had the privilege to serve with her. While she has decided not to seek re-election in 2026, I look forward to working one more year together with her in the People’s House to make our state a better place for all New Yorkers. I wish Deborah all the best.
