(From left) Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Senator Bruno and Gov. David Patterson celebrate, at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) at the University at Albany, IBM’s announcement to invest $1.5 billion in New York, creating 1,000 new jobs for the Upstate economy.

The IBM commitment, combined with $140 million in state funding, includes expanding its operations at CNSE, establishing a new semiconductor packaging facility in Upstate New York and upgrading its East Fishkill facilities. In 1998, the Assembly invested $5 million in the National Focus Center On Interconnects at CNSE, which resulted in a series of significant private and public investment partnerships over the years. Today, a decade later, not only has CNSE stimulated job growth in the Capitol Region, but it is also recognized as one of the most advanced nanoscale research and development facilities in the world.
