Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
HEAP provides assistance to low-income households and to households with vulnerable members—like children, seniors and people with disabilities—to help meet their heating needs.
For more information on HEAP, including how to apply and eligibility guidelines, visit www.otda.state.ny.us/main/heap or call the NYS HEAP hotline at 1-800-342-3009.
HEAP Regular Benefit. Regular HEAP benefits are based on income, the primary fuel source and the presence of a household member who is under age 6, over age 59 or who is permanently disabled. The program opened Nov. 2 and all those who qualify—regardless of last year’s eligibility—are encouraged to apply.
HEAP Emergency Benefit. This benefit assists low-income New Yorkers who face a heat or heat-related energy emergency and who don’t have the resources available to resolve the crisis.
Furnace Repair or Replacement. This is available to low-income homeowners who need reparation or replacement of furnaces, boilers or other direct heating components necessary to keep the home’s primary heating source functional.
Helpful Local ContactsFor program or eligibility information, call the Erie County HEAP Hotline at 858-7870 or visit www.erie.gov/depts/socialservices/heap.asp.
