Taxes and Government Spending

With the Empire State being one of the highest taxed states in the nation, Assemblyman Tom O'Mara knows it is time to deliver real and lasting tax relief for all New Yorkers. Tom O'Mara is committed to lowering taxes and reducing wasteful government spending because, in these tough times, he knows that families, seniors and small businesses need fewer financial burdens, not more, placed on their shoulders.

Tom understands that skyrocketing property taxes are making it harder for families, seniors and businesses to keep their homes and makes it difficult for young New Yorkers to afford the American Dream of homeownership. To provide both short-and long-term relief from rising home taxes, Assemblyman O'Mara is working to eliminate unfunded state mandates on schools and local governments and providing local governments with the tools to better combat Medicaid waste and fraud (A.2796).

In addition to fighting for real property tax relief and lower business taxes, Assemblyman O'Mara also is working to create tax credits to help individuals heat their homes, upgrade to energy-efficient appliances, lower state income taxes and provide families with bigger tax credits for the care of their children.
