Economic Development

Two of the greatest economic resources that CNY has are its world class higher education institutions and the large number of high tech firms in the area.

The most obvious goal is to take the cutting edge research being done in the universities and, through partnerships with local entrepreneurs, commercialize this new technology by bringing it to the market, creating jobs and entire industries.

As Chair of the Legislative Task Force on University-Industry Cooperation, I have been involved in several local projects that by partnering the two, create good-paying jobs and attract new industries.

Programs such as the ones mentioned above are incentives for university students to stay in the CNY area. They can help modernize the local workforce and help it advance into creating cutting edge technology and programs.

By forming partnerships between institutions of higher education and high tech firms, we can create opportunities and jobs that the entire Central New York community can benefit from.
