As a parent of three, I know how important it is to keep our children safe from dangerous sex offenders and criminals. I have been a leading advocate for the passage of New York's Megan's Law and the Sexual Assault Reform Act. I have also sponsored the following laws to protect our kids:
E-STOP legislation to protect children who use the Internet, signed into law by the Governor last year. This bill requires sex offenders to register their Internet accounts with law enforcement agencies and enables social networking sites to prescreen or remove them from their services.
Civil confinement of violent sex offenders, to keep them off of our streets even after their prison sentences are up.
Immediate termination of any teacher guilty of committing a crime that would require registration on the sex offender registry.
I also urge parents to get a SAFE CHILD card for their kids. The card contains a child's photograph, biographical data and fingerprint images, which can dramatically increase the possibility of finding a missing child. The SAFE CHILD card can be processed at the following location:
