Aid to the Dominican Republic

Assemblyman José Rivera along with Governor Eliot Spitzer and other elected officials, sent aid to the Dominican Republic. To support rescue operations, food and non-perishable items were sent to areas most devastated by tropical-storm Noel.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of the Dominican Republic who have suffered the devastating effects of tropical storm Noel. I am pleased to be able to help our neighbors in the Caribbean who are now in the painful process of mourning those who were lost and have begun the task of rebuilding their lives and communities.

Ayuda a la República Dominicana

El asambleísta José Rivera, el gobernador Eliot Spitzer y otros oficiales electos aunaron esfuerzos para enviar ayuda a la República Dominicana, con fines de apoyar las operaciones de rescate, y enviar alimentos y artículos a las áreas más afectadas por la tormenta tropical Noel.

Nuestros corazones y oraciones están con el pueblo de la República Dominicana, quien ha sufrido los devastadores efectos de la tormenta tropical Noel. Me complace haber podido ayudar a nuestros vecinos del Caribe, quienes ahora sufren la pérdida de seres queridos y empiezan la tarea de reconstruir sus vidas y comunidades.

Kingsbridge Heights Holiday Festival

Kingsbridge Heights Community Center celebrated its 12th annual winter holiday festival on December 19th. Over 600 community residents attended, making it one of the largest neighborhood events of the year.

The festival featured a sit-down dinner, plus arts and crafts activities and entertainment booths operated by students from Fieldston, whose Community Service program places students in guided internships with area social services agencies, and which has a long relationship with KHCC.

Kingsbridge Heights Community Center is a non-profit agency serving the Northwest Bronx. The Center was founded in 1974 by a group of community residents concerned about deteriorating quality of life in the neighborhood, and opened in 1975. Today KHCC offers programs and services for all ages, including Early Childhood, Youth, Families, and Adults & Seniors.

Our Child Sexual Abuse Treatment and Prevention Programs serve the entire borough with the only free, long-term treatment available outside a hospital setting. Their mission is to strengthen residents’ ability to effect positive change in the quality of their own lives and those of their families and their community. They can be reached at (718) 884-0700.

Festival Navideño de Kingsbridge Heights

El Centro Comunitario de Kingsbridge Heights (KHCC) celebró su 12avo Festival Anual Navideño el 19 de diciembre. Más de 600 miembros de la comunidad asistieron, haciéndolo uno de los eventos comunitarios más grandes del año.

El festival incluyó una cena formal, actividades de artesanía y manualidades, y casetas de entretenimiento dirigidas por estudiantes de Fieldston, cuyo programa de servicio comunitario ubica a estudiantes de práctica con agencias locales de servicio social que tienen una fuerte relación con el KHCC.

El Centro Comunitario de Kingsbridge Heights es una agencia sin fines de lucro que sirve al noreste del Bronx. El centro fue fundado en 1974 por miembros de la comunidad que estaban preocupados por la deteriorante calidad de vida en el vecindario. El KHCC abrió sus puertas en 1975 y hoy ofrece programas y servicios a gente de todas las edades, incluyendo niños, jóvenes, familias, adultos y ancianos.

Nuestros programas de tratamiento y prevención del abuso sexual infantil ayudan a todo el condado con el único centro que provee servicios gratis de tratamiento a largo plazo fuera del hospital. La misión del centro es fortalecer la habilidad de los residentes para cambiar positivamente la calidad de sus propias vidas y las de sus familias y comunidades. Puerto Rican Migration Documentary

A BronxNet produced documentary with the help of Assemblyman José Rivera “Migration: The Puerto Rican Experience” recently premiered at an event, held by The New York Botanical Garden, as part of their Puerto Rican Heritage Month celebration.

A large crowd attended the premiere screening at The New York Botanical Garden. Attendees, including many of the individuals who appeared in the documentary, were impressed with the program and grateful to Assemblyman Rivera for making it possible.

In addressing the audience and commenting on the documentary, Assemblyman Rivera stated: “Because of what BronxNet is doing today, people all over will know that there are a great people, the Puerto Rican people, who along with many others, helped make this country great. Each and every one of you should write your story...We all can make an impact and let all of those who come after us know the contributions of those who came before.”

Documental Sobre La Emigración Puertorriqueña

Un documental producido por BronxNet con la ayuda del asambleísta José Rivera “Emigración: La Experiencia Puertorriqueña” recientemente se estrenó durante un evento auspiciado por el Jardín Botánico de Nueva York como parte de su celebración del Mes de la Herencia Puertorriqueña.

Un gran número de personas asistieron al estreno en el Jardín Botánico de Nueva York. Los asistentes, incluso muchas de las personas que salieron en el documental, quedaron impresionados con el programa y le agradecieron al asambleísta Rivera el haber hecho todo lo posible por convertirlo en realidad.

Al dirigirse a los asistentes y comentar sobre el documental, el asambleísta Rivera dijo: “Gracias a lo que BronxNet ha logrado hoy, el mundo conocerá que los puertorriqueños somos una gran gente, quienes junto a muchos otros hemos ayudado a que este país sea un gran lugar para vivir. Cada uno de ustedes debe escribir su propia historia...Todos podemos hacer un impacto y dejarles saber a los que vengan después de nosotros las contribuciones hechas por los que llegaron antes que ellos”.
