Making Strides in the Fight
Against Breast Cancer

The American Cancer Society estimated that over 14,000 women would be diagnosed with breast cancer last year in New York. That’s why Assemblywoman Annette M. Robinson wants you to know about the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) Breast Cancer Demonstration Project, which offers information on early detection methods and breast cancer treatment.

The Assembly has fought to secure funding for this vital program for the last four years – despite the governor’s eliminating funding each year. The Assembly also passed the Women’s Health and Wellness Act in 2002 to help make regular checkups and screenings more affordable and accessible (Ch.554 of 2002). Assemblywoman Annette M. Robinson will continue working to provide our community with the programs that keep families safe and healthy.

The HANYS Breast Cancer Demonstration Project, along with the American Cancer Society, have made available brochures to help teach women the importance of early detection and guide patients through their treatment. The early detection brochure has been translated into nine languages, including: Chinese, Creole, French, Hindi, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. The treatment guidelines brochure is available in: Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Korean, Polish, and Russian.

To download a brochure, visit the HANYS Web site at: www.hanys.org, click on “Breast Cancer Project” and then “Virtual Library.”
