“In Times of Emergency, We Can Count on Their Protection”

Last year, Assemblyman McKevitt helped pass legislation that allows volunteers to operate their emergency vehicles without a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This legislation will not only allow them to perform their duties to the fullest capacity, but will protect them from prosecution and lawsuits as well.
Other legislation he has proposed would help volunteers
in a number of ways, including:
  1. Increasing the volunteer firefighter and ambulance
    worker tax credit to $500;
  2. Exempting motor vehicles used for duties from
    various fees and taxes;
  3. Providing safety for employees who are late or
    miss work due to responding to an emergency;
  4. Establishing the Volunteer Firefighters and
    Emergency Medical Service Volunteer
    Recruitment Loan Forgiveness Program;
  5. Exempts volunteer fire companies from real
    property taxation; and
  6. Granting five points additional credit to volunteer
    firefighters and ambulance workers in competitive civil service examinations.
