As your new assemblyman, one of my top priorities is to meet the needs of the residents of Nassau County. As your elected official, I am here to assist you as best I can.

This Constituent Outreach Guide contains information on my RESTORE NY plan which addresses topics like investing in education, providing property tax relief and keeping our communities safe.

My staff and I are here to help you with whatever issues you may have. We are here to answer questions and to address concerns that you may have regarding state government. We can also assist you in dealing with federal and local governments.

This guide also contains a card on which you can let me know your opinion about the most important issues facing Nassau County. I want to know which topics concern you the most. This year, Assemblyman Tom McKevitt was able to provide a record increase in funding for Nassau County’s schools. They will receive $681 million, a $62 million increase over last year. It is incumbent upon school districts to responsibly allot these funds to create the best schools possible. McKevitt is working to ensure the best education for our children and to increase accountability in New York’s school districts by:

Residents of Long Island are forced to deal with a crushing property tax burden. McKevitt’s plan would halt rising taxes and put money back in the pockets of New York’s residents by:

• Increasing STAR exemptions to reflect current home values

• Providing an average of $199 in Co-STAR rebates for Nassau County seniors

• Providing rebates directly to the taxpayer

• Saving Nassau County homeowners nearly $290 by eliminating waste, fraud and abuse in the Medicaid program and returning the savings to hard-working taxpayers.

RESTORE NY would help Long Island’s small businesses by:

• Creating a Small Business Energy Tax reduction

• Increasing the sales tax vendor credit to 10 percent

• Establishing a Small Business Tax Credit for businesses that provide job training to employees.

Assemblyman McKevitt is committed to ensuring our seniors have the highest quality healthcare and access to affordable prescription drugs. Through RESTORE NY, Tom McKevitt will help seniors maintain their good health.

He will create:

• The EPIC Extra plan, through which every senior with an annual income less than $60,000 can claim an annual income tax deduction of up to $1,000 to further reduce the cost of prescription drugs.

• Requiring the civil confinement of dangerous sex offenders

• Ensuring countywide notification so everyone in a community knows when a sex offender moves into a neighborhood

• Expanding the DNA database to include samples from all convicted criminals in New York state

• Mandating minimum 25-year prison sentence for child rapists and increase prison sentences for other dangerous sexual predators.
