Assemblyman Robert D. Barra (14th District) partnered with the New York Islanders to host his first Holiday Floor Hockey Tournament on Thursday. This special event was designed to promote fun and sportsmanship among local sixth-grade students.

"I am grateful for all who helped me organize and execute this special event in Valley Stream. Students from William L. Buck, R.W. Carbonaro and Brooklyn Avenue schools captured the holiday spirit while having some fantastic fun. I am proud of all who competed this year and look forward to hosting this floor hockey tournament again next year," said Barra.

The tournament was held at the William L. Buck Elementary School in Valley Stream and included 15 five-person teams competing for the right to take on Barra and his team of veteran floor hockey players. Barra ended the event by congratulating the team from William L. Buck, who were the winners of the Barra Holiday Hockey Cup.

Barra also thanked school administrators and faculty for their help, the New York Islanders for donating equipment and tickets, and famous Islander/Yankee organist Paul Cartier who provideed the realistic game-like atmosphere.
