Don’t miss out on STAR property tax savings

– the deadline is March 1, 2003

Last year, the Assembly improved the School Tax Relief (STAR) program by:

    star Accounting for cost-of-living increases – making more seniors eligible for enhanced STAR benefits;

    star Simplifying the application process – allowing seniors to automatically renew every year through the STAR Income Verification program;

    star Extending application time for seniors who miss the deadline due to health emergencies or other extenuating circumstances;

    star Expanding STAR exemption to cover certain co-op owners.

To apply for STAR, call:

STAR Information - (631) 224-5058

The Assembly’s STAR improvements mean easier savings for more seniors.

Enhanced STAR can reduce school property taxes an average of $1,370 a year for eligible Suffolk homeowners 65 and over with incomes up to $62,100.

Last year, the Assembly fought to raise income eligibility levels for enhanced STAR, providing more seniors with needed tax relief. Now, it’s easier to keep your enhanced STAR savings through the STAR Income Verification program – which eliminates the need to reapply every year.

You must apply by March 1, 2003 to take advantage of enhanced STAR – even if you applied last year – and don’t forget to sign up for the STAR Income Verification program. If you’re ineligible for enhanced STAR, basic STAR could still save you an average of $810 per year – savings too good to miss. Apply today!
