With the impact of Hurricane Sandy still being felt throughout much of New York, my heart goes out to the families that have been affected by the devastation and those who have lost loved ones as a result of this natural disaster. Faced with the challenges presented by the storm, it is vital for every resident of the Concourse, Highbridge, Morris Heights and Mount Eden communities in the Bronx to have the information they need about the essential services that have been established in the wake of this tremendous tragedy.

It is particularly important for residents of Bronx County to know that they can access emergency information by calling 311 or (212) 639-9675. In addition, hearing and speech impaired residents can call (212) 504-4115 (TTY) for assistance. Information can also be obtained online at www.nyc.gov.gov/311. Information about the hours and locations of centers providing food to families needing assistance can be found at www.nyc.gov/html/misc/html/2012/foodandwater.html.

Residents and businesses in New York City that have sustained losses from Hurricane Sandy can already begin applying for assistance by registering online at http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov/ or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for those who are hearing and speech impaired. Both toll free numbers will be operated from 7:00am until 10:00pm seven days a week until further notice.

With many of our family and friends struggling to recover from the affects of this terrible and deadly storm, each of us can help by making sure everyone has access to the resources provided by the recovery effort and I urge you to help me distribute this information to anyone who needs assistance.

I know that our people are the best New York has to offer and residents throughout the 77th Assembly District are committed to participating in the rebuilding of our proud City and State.
