Miller On ‘Tax Freedom’ Day

A statement from Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I-New Hartford)

“It is no secret that New York state residents suffer from one of the worst tax burdens in the nation. We feel it in every paycheck. Our families feel it every time they go to the grocery store and have to budget to the penny to make it work. This state overtaxes our residents, and they are leaving for neighboring states because of it.

“Today is Tax Freedom Day in New York, meaning that residents have finally worked enough to pay their annual tax bill. Not only is it unacceptable because we are now nearly halfway through the year, but National Tax Freedom Day fell on April 19 – nearly one month ago. Our residents deserve better, and they deserve to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks. We must decrease government spending to lower the tax burden and pass solid legislation that attracts business and stimulates the economy. That is the only way forward for this state.”
