Giglio Applauds New Penalties Against Illegal Gun Traffickers

New laws will further protect public, police personnel

Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) called today’s passage of new, tougher penalties against illegal gun traffickers a victory for courageous police officers throughout the state and all New Yorkers.

“I am heartened the state Legislature was able to collectively see the critical importance of passing this common-sense legislation,” said Giglio. “These new penalties will not only punish dangerous criminals more fully, but also honor the memories of New York Police Department Detective Dillon Stewart and Officer Daniel Enchautegui, and recognize the losses felt by their families, friends and colleagues.”

Giglio earlier joined his Assembly minority colleagues in calling for increased criminal penalties for illegal gun traffickers, citing the deaths of two New York City police officers who were senselessly gunned down over the past few weeks by criminals using allegedly illegal handguns.
