Kavanagh Co-Sponsors Educational Program on Tenants and Foreclosures
October 22, 2009

On October 22, 2009, Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh, along with Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, many other elected officials, and an array of Brooklyn-based and citywide community organizations and departments, is co-sponsoring an event to educate community leaders and service providers on tenants’ rights during foreclosure. The event is taking place at the Forchelli Conference Center at Brooklyn Law School at 205 State Street from 3pm to 5pm.

This program, organized by the Feerick Center for Social Justice at Fordham Law School, will provide an overview of the foreclosure problem in New York City, a summary of the foreclosure process, and a description of the impact of foreclosures on tenants, including their rights to obtain repairs and prevent evictions during and after foreclosure. Moderating the panel is John D. Feerick from the Feerick Center, and those participating on the panel are Raun Rasmussen, Legal Services NYC; Louise Seeley, Citywide Task Force on Housing Court; and Josiah Madar, Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at NYU. The programs are targeted to community leaders, constituent services staff, and other social services providers.
