June 19, 2009
The Stein Senior Center held an open house at 340 East 24th Street on June 19, 2009 to showcase its new day program for people with Alzheimer’s disease. The program is entitled SPA, which stands for Service Program for Adults. Executive Director Jane Barry gave Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh’s community liaison Cameron Peterson a tour of the facilities and explained the program’s attributes, from providing participants with therapeutic sessions in creative writing and meditation to offering caregiver counseling. The daytime program, a collaborative effort with the International Center for the Disabled, will assemble in small groups three days a week from 1:30pm to 4:30pm starting in mid-July.
