Kavanagh Stands Up For Public Housing Residents

March 20, 2009
On March 20, 2009, Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh joined State Senator Daniel Squadron, public housing residents, and tenant advocates on the steps of City Hall to call on the State to fund State owned NYCHA developments in this year’s budget. The twenty two public housing developments built by New York State – one of them in Kavanagh’s Assembly District – have not received operating subsidies from the State for over a decade.

The State’s failure to fund these developments accounts for more than $60 million of NYCHA’s overall annual operating deficit. Assemblymember Kavanagh, who represents 18,000 public housing residents in the 74th Assembly District, has fought for this funding each year he’s served in the Assembly and will continue to call on the State to meet its responsibility to NYCHA tenants.
