Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I – East Meadow) and Long Island Blood Services will be holding a blood drive:
2:15 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
North Merrick Public Library
1691 Meadowbrook Road
“Only about two percent of Long Island residents who are eligible actually donate blood,” said McKevitt. “We need to ensure that Long Island’s blood banks maintain an adequate supply. I encourage all who are eligible to give the gift of life by donating blood today. Remember that your blood donation can save up to three lives.”
According to Long Island Blood Services, you must:
- Bring a valid photo or signature identification
- Weigh at least 110 lbs.
- Be at least 16 years old (16-year-olds need parental consent, and those 76 years of age and older need a doctor’s note)
- Eat well and be hydrated prior to your appointment
- Not have gotten a tattoo within the past 12 months (unless applied in New Jersey)
Local businesses who have donated prizes and services for the blood drive include
Beauty Affairs Salon, Boswell’s Delicatessen, Burger 9 Point 5, Canteen, Crave Deli and Catering, Fontana Studios, Gourmet Express Coffee Shop, George Martin’s Grillfire, La Strada Italian Restaurant, Luanne’s, Merrick Diner, Milo’s Pizzeria, Nor-Bel Servicenter Inc., Roberto’s Barber Shop, Royal Music Co., Inc., San Marzano Brick Oven Pizzeria, Soprano’s Deli and Bagel, Synergy Fitness Club, and Vanity Salon.
