McKevitt Scores Big For Nursing Homes In His District

Restores almost $1.7 million in proposed cuts from the Executive Budget
April 1, 2008
Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I-East Meadow) today announced that he has secured approximately $1.7 million to offset proposed cuts in the 2008-09 Executive Budget. The three nursing homes in his district are the beneficiaries of McKevitt’s insistence that the budget be reworked with more emphasis placed on nursing homes and the care they provide.

“Cutting the funding to nursing homes is the last thing we should ever want to do and I will never stand idly by while that happens,” said McKevitt. “The Executive Budget was misguided. There is no other way to spin it. The elderly deserve top-notch care from facilities in my district, which cannot be provided if their funding is cut.”

McKevitt was able to secure:

  • $1,206,000 for the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility
  • $436,000 for the Townhouse Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing
  • $37,000 for the Belair Care Center, Inc.

“Health care, like education, is a part of the budget that deserves as much funding as possible,” added McKevitt. “I won’t rest until health care is made more affordable, while maintaining the great quality care that we’re accustomed to.”
