Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I-East Meadow) today announced the Bethpage Federal Credit Union has partnered with the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition, financial institutions and elected officials to offer free tax preparation services to eligible Long Island residents.
“Preparing your taxes can often be a costly and frustrating process that, if not done properly, can lead to bigger problems and, in some cases - an audit. That is why I urge eligible residents to take advantage of this free service being offered. It will simplify the process of filing taxes and help maximize your return,” said McKevitt.
Individuals making less than $35,263 or couples filing jointly making less than $37,263 are eligible to take advantage of the free assistance. The program will run through April 14 and assistants will be available every Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon.
McKevitt noted that individuals seeking assistance must bring with them photo identification, Social Security cards, W-2 wage and earning statements from employers and other relevant information about income and expenses. Additionally, to file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present.
