Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I-East Meadow) has unveiled his plan to honor women who were called to work during World War II.
The “Rosie the Riveter” award will recognize and pay tribute to the hard working, patriotic women who made great personal sacrifices to boost wartime production.
“I am pleased to announce this new program that will help honor the unsung heroes from our nation’s greatest generation,” McKevitt said. “When our fathers and grandfathers were called to fight overseas, many of our mothers and grandmothers went to work to fill the jobs needed to make the fight successful. Their hard work and dedication were not only essential to the war effort, but it helped boost morale both here at home and overseas.”
The award is similar to “Operation Recognition,” which awards diplomas to Veterans of World War II, Korea, or Vietnam Wars who did not receive them due to wartime service.
