Statement from Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I-East Meadow) on the Budget Reform Agreement
January 18, 2007
I applaud the agreement reached today by Governor Spitzer and legislative leaders on a move toward enacting comprehensive budget reforms in order to provide a more transparent and accountable budget process to all New Yorkers.
The agreement comes after years of false starts and gridlock leading to late budgets and dysfunction. The measures should help overhaul the budget process and lead to the enactment of a responsible on-time budget by March 31st.
While a significant step has been made today, more work lies ahead in order to restore accountability in state government for all New Yorkers. I look forward to building on today’s proposals by further enacting reforms to the legislative process.
