Assembly District 1
Marc S. Alessi
Dear Neighbor:
Welcome to my Assembly Web site. Here you will find important information about our community, as well as the latest news from the state Capitol in Albany. The telephone numbers of my offices, as well as my e-mail address, can be found below. I look forward to hearing from you.
To those who I haven’t had a chance to meet in person, I grew up on Long Island and currently live in Shoreham with my wife, Gretchen, and our two children. I have represented our community in the Assembly since 2005.
Since that time, I’ve concentrated my efforts on maintaining affordable utility prices for Long Islanders, who pay some of the highest utility rates in the nation. I helped enforce the state’s Procurement Law to ensure LIPA puts all of its contracts out to bid, and fought for an audit of LIPA to ensure that ratepayers aren’t paying more than their fair share.
I’m also working to promote green energy technology that will lower energy costs, protect our environment, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. To that end, I authored legislation to make biodiesel a reality, helped pass the net-metering law, and fought against Broadwater.
Another one of my Assembly priorities is delivering real tax relief, offering a well-deserved respite for hardworking Suffolk residents who are being crushed by disproportionately high property taxes. We’ve taken some steps in the right direction by rejecting taxes and fees that would unfairly nickel-and-dime the already struggling middle class. But we need to continue to look for ways to keep taxes down, including exploring a circuit breaker-style property tax cap that would provide immediate, comprehensive and fair tax relief for middle-income homeowners.
Increasing access to quality, affordable health care is another issue important to Long Island families. Years of lax oversight have allowed HMOs to make a mess of our health care system, and it’s time to clean it up. We need to pass meaningful legislation that puts patients first.
Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our children and families. That’s why I’ve passed legislation to help keep dangerous sex predators off the streets and to protect seniors from becoming targets of fraud and violence. I will continue to look for ways to protect our residents, making Suffolk a safer place to live, work and raise a family.
For more information on these issues and more, I encourage you to browse this site. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Marc Alessi
