POPULATION SERVED: Non-exempt adults receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), including 16 and 17 year olds not in school
SERVICES PROVIDED: Unsubsidized employment, subsidized public sector employment, subsidized private sector employment, work experience, on-the-job training, job search, job readiness training, community service, vocational education, job skills training, education training, high school or equivalent, and child care
ADMINISTRATIVE AGENCY: Department of Labor (Division of Welfare-To-Work)
ELIGIBLE SERVICE PROVIDERS: BOCES, local Departments of Social Services, community-based organizations, proprietary schools, public secondary schools, private colleges/universities, service delivery areas, SUNY and CUNY two-year institutions

AUTHORIZATION: Federal/State Budget: Title I of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (Public Law 104-193)
DESCRIPTION: TANF is the federal block grant program which provides assistance to needy families with children. It seeks to reduce dependency by promoting job preparation and work. Under the State's program, recipients are furnished with work activities and supportive services with the goal of entry into unsubsidized employment.
