As Chairs of the Task Force on People with Disabilities and the Committee on Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, we are very excited to be sponsoring the New York State Assembly’s Legislative Disabilities Awareness Day, which will be held in Albany on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 from 8:30 am to 2:45 pm. Disabilities Awareness Day provides an opportunity to educate legislators and their staffs on important issues while also striving to highlight the accomplishments of advocates and persons with disabilities. In addition, we make a tremendous effort to inform everyone present of the latest services, programs and technology available. Disabilities Awareness Day consists of many exciting events, to which we will welcome New York’s disability community and its advocates, various members of the Assembly and honored guests. We will be hosting an exhibitor fair and several seminars on issues of interest to people with disabilities throughout the day. In addition, a package of legislation crafted with significant input from disability advocates will be on the floor of the Assembly. We hope that you will join us. While you’re here in Albany, please stop in and visit your local Assemblymember and Senator. Remember, you’re the best advocate for disability issues.
