Assembly Energy Committee Chair Issues Statement on New NYPA Leadership

Assemblymember Kevin Cahill, Chair of the Assembly Energy Committee, released a statement today regarding Governor Andrew Cuomo’s decision to recommend Gil Quiniones as President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Power Authority (NYPA).

"Governor Cuomo made the right decision in recommending Gil Quiniones to lead the New York Power Authority at this pivotal moment in the organization’s history. Mr. Quiniones has the professional experience, background and know-how necessary to refocus the Authority on its core mission of providing New Yorkers with a reliable and modern electricity infrastructure to serve as the backbone of our economic future.

“For far too long, the Power Authority has operated in the shadows, accountable and responsive to no one. This is a perfect opportunity for the Cuomo administration to provide NYPA, Mr. Quiniones and the Trustees with the mandate, freedom and, most importantly, the tools to overhaul this important agency. Continuing on the good work of Trustees such as John Dyson, I am confident that President Quiniones will restore its integrity and bring it back to its rightful place as the preeminent public utility in the nation.

“I look forward to partnering with the new leadership at the Power Authority on initiatives and investments that will drive New York’s economic growth. Together we can harness NYPA’s resources and expertise to bring about a more efficient and energy independent state that will serve as a model for the rest of the country to follow.”
