Agency Mission

The Office of Welfare Inspector General is responsible for the prevention, investigation and prosecution of public assistance fraud. The Office works closely with the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, local social services offices, the Office of Children and Family Services, the Department of Law and others to prevent fraudulent activity in the welfare system.

Year-to-Year Change

The Executive recommends an appropriation of $1,021,000, an increase of $70,000 over State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2000-01 levels. The proposed increase is due to the annualized costs related to moving the office to a new location.

Legislative Changes

The Assembly makes no changes to the Executive's proposal.
