In keeping with the ongoing celebration of March as Women's History Month, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver joined with Legislative Women's Caucus Chair Michele Titus and the Assembly Majority to honor the numerous professional and civic accomplishments of Donna Zaccaro, daughter of the late Geraldine Ferraro.
Among her many lauded achievements, Zaccaro is the director and producer of "Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way," a feature-length documentary recognizing the life and legacy of her mother. A screening of the film will take place in The Egg at the Empire State Plaza, in Albany on the evening of Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
"Like her legendary mother, Donna Zaccaro has devoted herself to achievement but also, to a life of giving back," said Speaker Silver. "I urge all New Yorkers to experience Ms. Zaccaro's documentary and to relive an inspiring and groundbreaking moment in American political history."
"In producing such a wonderful, inspiring film, Donna has not only preserved the life and achievements of her mother, Geraldine, she has shared countless lessons that can help all of us strive to become better leaders," Titus said.
"Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way" tells numerous stories of Geraldine Ferraro's life and career as a political trailblazer and underscores the impact she had on American culture and politics. In 1984, Ferrarro became the first woman Vice Presidential candidate from a major American political party, breaking down barriers and forever altering the nation's perception of what was possible for women in politics.
Ferraro was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 1998, ultimately succumbing to the disease in 2011.
In addition to directing and producing this documentary, Donna Zaccaro is the Founder and President of Dazzling Media, a New York-based media production company. She has also won awards for her longtime work as a producer on the Today show. Additionally, Zacarro has worked in public affairs at the Bedford Kent Group, a marketing and communications firm she co-founded and has also worked in investment banking at Salomon Brothers. Zacarro also dedicated her time to work in politics, working on campaigns for her mother.
Zaccaro serves on the Board of Trustees at Grace Church School, an independent school in New York City and previously President of WhatGoesAround.org (WGA) a nonprofit, online charitable giving website. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and actively participated in MMRF Laugh for Life: New York.
