Statement From Speaker Silver On
Of Historic Marriage Equality Act

Passage of the Marriage Equality Act is a giant step forward in the march toward full civil rights for all New Yorkers and a historic turning point in the journey of our state and nation. When the New York State Assembly first passed marriage equality legislation in 2007, we said that we believe in a New York where all families have equal rights under the law. Today I am proud that this belief has become a reality. I salute Governor Andrew Cuomo and my colleague, Assemblyman Danny O’Donnell, for their tremendous leadership.
