Statement On Plan To Demolish Deutsche Bank Building

The acceptance by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation’s (LMDC) plan to tear down the blighted Deutsche Bank Building at 130 Liberty Street means important progress in our four-year fight to rebuild Lower Manhattan from the devastation and destruction caused by the terrorist attacks.

As this long-awaited work moves forward, the paramount concern must be the health and safety of the many people who live and work in Lower Manhattan. The EPA and the LMDC must be vigilant in ensuring this project is carried out in an open, public process that adequately addresses the health and safety concerns, not only of those who call Lower Manhattan home, but the men and women responsible for tearing this building down.

As part of this open process, the EPA and the LMDC must continue to publicly make available their plan to ensure active community involvement and provide regular updates on environmental concerns or other issues that may impact the community.
