Statement from Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) on Majority's Continued Support for Common Core
'The Assembly Majority Had The Opportunity To Take A Significant Step For New York's Students - And They Passed.'

Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) today issued the following statement on the rejection of a bill that would place a two-year moratorium on Common Core testing until the program is modified. The bill (A.3656, Ra) was blocked in committee from a vote on the Assembly floor.

"Today Assembly Majority members had the opportunity to take a significant step for New York's students, parents, teachers and schools - and they passed. It has never been more obvious that we need to delay the Common Core tests until the program is fixed.

More than 175,000 students were opted out of the Common Core tests last week. That total will almost certainly grow as math tests are administered over the next several days. It is disgraceful that New York's parents have been forced to take matters into their own hands because legislators in Albany refused to act.

Common Core tests can no longer serve as one of our educational system's foundational elements. The Majority's refusal to consider this bill and fix the broken program is a failure to recognize a serious problem and an endorsement of the flawed status quo."
