Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb (R,C,I-Canandaigua) Supports Adelphi's Breast Cancer Hotline Campaign During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I-Canandaigua) today announced his support for the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program's annual 'October Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.'

"October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to focus on getting the facts and raising awareness about this serious disease," Leader Kolb said. "Breast cancer steals the lives of almost 2,700 New Yorkers each year. Facing a potential cancer diagnosis is a stressful time for a woman and her family. Luckily, the volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline are there to help with emotional support and the information needed to take the next step and schedule a mammogram or other medical treatment."

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program offers a toll-free number - 1-800-877-8077 - which individuals with questions about breast cancer can call to speak with a highly-trained volunteer to receive emotional support, information and referrals. According to the New York State Department of Health, over 14,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in New York every year. An estimated one in eight women will develop breast cancer during her lifetime.

"The volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program have served as a comforting voice and informative resource to New York women for 33 years. I am pleased to promote the many services available free of charge from the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program," Kolb concluded.
