Statement from Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco
(R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga)

"If the news is true that Governor Eliot Spitzer is indeed backing off his unlawful plan to give illegal aliens driver's licenses, then it's a great victory for New Yorkers and all Americans. While it's unfortunate that it took Governor Spitzer this long to see the light, it's still tremendous news for our state. I'm especially proud that, from the beginning, our Assembly Minority Conference took the lead in stopping this unlawful proposal from going forward. This victory is proof positive that the people of our great state are the most powerful voices in this democracy. Today, their voices were finally heard, loud and clear, by Governor Spitzer. I've said all along that my opposition to the Governor's unlawful plan wasn't about politics - it was about ensuring the safety and security of all New Yorkers. The end of the Governor Spitzer's proposal marks the beginning of a safer, more secure New York state."
